Ohio Northern University (ONU) is a private institution located in Ada, Ohio. It was founded in 1871 by Henry Solomon Lehr and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The university offers more than 60 programs across five different colleges and maintains an affiliation with the United Methodist Church.

Originally established as the Northwestern Ohio Normal School in August 1871, the institution expanded its curriculum over the years to include pharmacy, engineering, law, and business programs. In 1885, the school was renamed Ohio Normal University, and in 1903, it adopted its current name, Ohio Northern University. To alleviate financial strain, the university formed an affiliation with the United Methodist Church in 1899.

Academics

The institution is made up of five distinct colleges: the Getty College of Arts and Sciences, the James F. Dicke College of Business Administration, the T.J. Smull College of Engineering, the Rudolph H. Raabe College of Pharmacy, and the Claude W. Pettit College of Law, which was founded in 1885.

Before 1973, the law school was called the Warren G. Harding College of Law. It was later renamed in honour of Claude W. Pettit, a judge and former dean of the college.
