Types of Student Visas in Singapore

Singapore study visa is recognised at all of Singapore's 34 International Houses of Learning (IHLs), which cater to international students. There are 4 types of Singapore student visas: 

  1. Training Work Permit
  2. Training Employment Pass
  3. Work Holiday Pass (under Work Holiday Program)
  4. Work Holiday Pass (under Work and Holiday Visa Program)

Students and semi-skilled foreign workers who are receiving practical training in Singapore for up to six months.

Training Employment Pass

Foreign professionals who are earning a minimum of S$ 3,00 and are undertaking practical training. 

Work Holiday Pass (under Work Holiday Program)

Students between the ages of 18 and 25 who want to work and vacation simultaneously in Singapore for up to 6 months.

Work Holiday Pass ( under Work and Holiday Visa Program)

For Australian students and graduates between the ages of 18 and 30 who desire to spend a year working and vacationing in Singapore.

The Singapore student visa applications are submitted to Singapore’s official registration system known as Student’s Pass Online Application and Registration (SOLAR). For students up to 19 years attending a college, the student visa application shall be directly processed by the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). However, students above the age of 20 have to sit for an interview for the completion of the visa process. 

 

Singapore Study Visa Requirements

The first step of the student pass application process is to ensure that you have all the required documents. Before you start filling out the Singapore study visa application, keep the following documents in handy:

  1. Passport
  2. Application form (ICA form 16) and fee payment receipt 
  3. The admission offer letter from university
  4. Passport size photographs
  5. Bank statements attesting to your financial ability to pay tuition fees
  6. Standardized Test Scores (IELTS, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL)
  7. Transcripts of your degrees, diplomas, or any certificates received from schools attended in India
  8. If you have applied for a student loan, ICA might require a sanction letter from the bank with proof of investments 
  9. Vaccination certificates

Note: Covid-19 immunisation will be required for a Singapore study visa from February 1, 2022.

Singapore Student Visa Process

A student needs an offer letter from one of the 34 IHLs before applying for the Singapore student visa. The process for obtaining Student Visa in Singapore is quite simple after that. As mentioned above, the Singapore student visa application has to be submitted on the SOLAR platform once your institution has updated and registered your information on ICA. The following steps can be followed to complete the application process

  1. Once you receive the SOLAR application number, visit the ICA website and enter the basic details like the application number, name, sex, nationality, date of birth, etc. 
  2. Select the e-form 16 and fill in the details. It will include the passport, contact, and residential details of the applicant in Singapore.
  3. Submit the Singapore student visa application form after the declaration, along with a recent passport-sized color photograph. 

Note: There are guidelines mentioned for the photograph, so ensure that you meet all the guidelines. 

  1. Pay the application fee after filling out the form. 
  1. Students shall receive an ‘In-Principle Approval’ (IPA) and the approval of their application. The IPA will have to be handed out to the ICA officers during the application process.

Singapore Student Visa Fees

As mentioned above, there is a Singapore study visa total cost. In order to obtain a Singapore student visa, an Indian student must pay two types of visa embassy fees:

 

  1. Visa Processing Fee: 

The visa processing fee costs SGD 30. It is paid to the ICA while you apply student visa singapore. It is a non-refundable service charge. It would cost around 1,700 INR. 

 

  1. Visa Issuance Fee: 

It will cost SGD 60 or around 3,350 INR. It is paid as the issuance of a student pass. Additionally, SGD 30 for multiple entry fees in case you want to leave and return back to Singapore.

Hence, the Singapore student visa total cost can be approximately 6,000 Indian rupees. 

 

Singapore Student Visa Processing Time

The Singapore student visa processing time can differ from a minimum of 10 days to a maximum of one month. Once the visa has been processed, it can be collected from the Embassy or sent to the student through courier. Hence, it is advisable to apply for the Singapore study visa two months prior to the commencement of the academic session.
