Founded by A.W.Mell, the WKU was originally a business school during the 20th century. It then developed and became a university offering more than 250 courses in various fields.

The University's main campus is at Bowling Green, with 3 more regional campuses located at Elizabethtown – Fort Knox, Glasgow, and Owensboro. The University campus houses the Gordon Ford College of Business, Ogden College of Science And Engineering, and Potter College of Arts and Letters, among other colleges.

Transportation in the city

Western Kentucky University Transportation has its services inside the campus. Students can avail of these services for free. 

The campus shuttle runs from Monday to Friday from 7:30A.M to 6:30 PM. It covers Parking Structure 3 to University Blvd; College Heights Blvd to Normal Street; Regents Avenue to Chestnut Street; University Blvd to Normal Street; College Heights Blvd to Avenue of Champions; Russellville Road West Lot to Parking Structure 3. 

There are separate airport shuttles for students during the spring and fall breaks for a particular amount of time. 

Other than shuttle bus services, students can commute by shared or private taxis and use the city bus services, which also have flexible timings.

  • The WKU Apartments offer premier, fully furnished two-bedroom and one-bedroom options for students with 60 or more credit hours (at the time of lease) who desire an apartment experience while living on the Hill.

On-Campus Accommodation Facilities & amenities 

  • All full-time first- and second-year students are required to live on campus.
  • Separate residence halls are available exclusively for male and female students and Coed Residence Halls.
  • Students can choose Residence Halls from Community style, Suit style & Hotel-style
  • Graduates can opt to stay in WKU Kentucky Street Apartments, situated on the north side of campus.
  • Fully furnished apartments are available.
  • Below mentioned rates are for graduate students staying in flats without a Meal plan.
