My take on "Fall 2020 admissions, during Covid-19" There are a lot of dynamics to be considered The job you currently hold ( If you don't hold any experience, strongly recommend deferring since most people would prefer exp candidates during a economic downlow; If you are switching subjects without relavent exp strongly recommend defering) The university you got admited ( if it's top 30-40 you should rethink deferring as competition gonna be huge next year, though intake will be increased, the after recession affect gonna be huge) Recession ( you are already in the middle of it... It's not inbound, you have already been hit, if you can't see the bleeding, that might be the cushion of savings that your family has or the job you hold) Current stats (It's still 3 months out, hold onto your admits atleast till 1st week of August. no major news of India based student being critically infected. might be due to the precautions enforced by the university or if you are interested, it might be a big cover-up ) Most from the current batch of 2020, 2021 are in US and some are able to get jobs and internships. Yes MS is a big investment, loans are gonna be huge burden, if you are afraid of anything happening to you and that financially effecting your family, look into insurances. If you are afraid of paying off that loan, you shouldn't be planning for MS in US in the first place. If you don't want it to emotionally tax your family, defer. We don't know anything as of now about consulates, permissions, air travel, anything. So better not speculate and get paranoid. Do not talk to students currently in us about what fall2020 gonna be.. no one knows. Talk to them about how they are taking their current classes, about measures university is taking.. etc Try talking to people in US who faces the 2008-09 recession, ms people more suitable Yeh YouTube pe ms ke bare jankari lena chod do.. koi kam ka nahi is time pe, kyunki koi bhi education counseling youtuber ne nahi dekha aisa situation pehle. At the end, if going to US was your dream... Better postpone it. But if going to your dream university and studying, researching your technical or managerial interest can be a reality, give it a thought and wait it out till the last moment that is August. Most of you are engineers, or other sciences students, calculate things according to your interests and confindence(which is backed by proven ability)
