How bad is the job scenario in the US because of the thrump effects ? 
Got to know that companies who used to sponsor h1b before are shying away this year. what we need to do is pool together info on this subject from present seniors from different colleges before we make a move and take up a huge loan.

USF is an average University..it's on the lower spectrum of tier-1 Universities..as far as job scenario goes for your field, don't go right now as you do not have any work ex plus as you said your university is "not that great"...of course no one can predict what the future might hold but I believe we'll have a clear picture by May when Trump meets Modi..a lot depends on how the 2 get along

Not being pessimistic over here, but Trump's term will end on January 20, 2021. Which is almost two years after graduation of fall 2017 batch. So just as a precaution, I would suggest learn French (I am serious...) by doing so we can get job offers from France, Canada, etc. And hopefully after 2021 we can go back to US ????

I haven't read all the comments but what Shirish is saying is right! Bindass niklo. 
To give you guys an idea about the current situation, I will tell you about some friends of mine who are currently studying at Stevens from Fall 2016 in CS/MIS

CASE 1) Experience of 2 years in Accenture & got an Summer Internship in ADP after Trump's inauguration. There are 3,4 more students with her who got the same Internship.

CASE 2) Has experience of 3 to 6 months and getting calls every week. No internship in hand yet but there is still time for him.

CASE 3) Got full time job in Qualcomm(JAN 2017). Did his internship in Qualcomm as well.

CASE 4) Got full time job in Microsoft (MARCH 2017). Graduated from Columbia.

So people are getting internships/jobs but it all depends on their profile. A friend of mine from SUNY Binghamton (Industrial engineering) recently got a full time job in Cognizant, LA.

I guess these examples will help you to know the current situation. I would say if you have time then get some experience in your field and then apply for MS.

And think about people who went for MS in 90's and before 2005 ! Did they have so much of idea about jobs after graduation ? But still many survived well in the competition. It's all upto you and how better can you sell yourself ;).

Presently it's bad...None of my friends who went last year have ended up with a summer internship...
Though everyone has part times or assistantship to slightly reduce their load.. Companies are hesitant to give internship as they fear they might not appoint the student later through H1b...And practically, appointing someone as an intern and putting efforts to train them and not being able to hire them latter isn't good for the company either..Seniors are saying it's temporary and things MIGHT get better by August...
For fall 17 ppl...Just being optimistic..By the time our masters is done and our OPT is done..Trump might be out of power and so his policies..
P.S. it seems that H1b is going to be merit based now and companies hire students with good experience...So ppl with 2-3 years of experience definitely have an edge..

Most of us are applying as freshers..You could enhance your software skills which you think might help you in the field you are interested..It's still 4-5 months to go..Do an internship in that period..There, everything depends on your skills and not on the number of degrees you have..

That is if you have an internship...If you don't get an internship or training at a company, you have a grace period of 6 months...If nothing happens in those 6 months you have to leave

They switched to thesis and are working under professors as assistants.
Again this is for ppl who are REALLY interested in research

At RIT  ppl easily get internship. But this year the scene is horrible.  Those with 3 years experience got interview calls but not appointment.  Those with no experience - absolutely no calls.  Looks like Trump factor working well

Those without work experience shud take 2 years experience and reapply.  By the time u pass out things shud be alright.
Frankly speaking 1992 , 2001, 2008 were bad years for jobs. Still ppl went there and lots got green card by now.

Regarding the Bill,since the majority of the House is Republican it is likely to get passed.And then it is gonna get even tougher.As someone said by the time we finish our Master's and OPT period Trump might go out of power.But word is that he is also planning to reduce the OTP period.If that is gonna happen then we are screwed.Even if that happens the government would experiment with the policy and eventually they would probably understand that it would affect their economy since the International student's bring about 32 Billion to America every year and not letting them work after education would stop majority of them from coming to America.But I only hope that they realise this Sooner.

@shirish Although I thought about deffering admission until 2018 FALL it doesn't make much sense to me.Assuming we would would get into a job,I would graduate in May and it would take a month or 2 to get placed and then another 3 months to get a call letter.In all possibility we will be working for 6 to 8 months which doesn't make any difference.We will have to either think about Spring or Fall 2019.

Okay let me make this clear. There are two types of companies. H1b dependent companies and h1b independent companies. Dependent companies are those which have more than 15? of international people working there, like Infosys. In that case 132k is applicable. But for h1b independent companies the minimum wage is 60k. This is applicable only if the bill passes and the probability is really low that the bill will pass. H1b independent companies example, ibm, Accenture. These companies will easily get you a h1b visa if you get placed, cuz there are very less international employees in these companies. Trump's 1st term ends in January 2021.. all that optimism is based on the assumption he won't be reelected :)  as somebody with many years in the industry, i would like to point out that many in this forum don't know what they really want out of a masters program.. or why they've chosen one university over another? that's why you see questions like - is this university good or how are the job prospects; after he/she has received an admit..why even apply when you're not sure about the program or the reputation of the university?? it's confusing to me...

Guys my gre score is not that great and tofel score is near about 100 i got admit from not that great institute. Earlier i was planning to go to US this fall but now because of trump effect, thinking to take job instead. One of my senior from SFU (CS) is been struggling to find full time job and is really tensed of future as companies are these days little shy to give even internships. I am little afraid if person from reputated institute like SFU is struggling to find job then but the student like me from electrical domain will do if not able to pull internship there and always in same thought of  being in debt.
Its my personal thought that if there will be deficit in number of students going to US and and now there is job problem arising people of US will get more job and they would be happy and there would be possibilities of trump again elected as President of US. Guys on a serious note what do you thing average student like me and other students like me  would survive there in US if so much is going on ...???
