• Describe the world you come from; for example, your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations? (250 words or fewer).
  
• Pick what field of study at MIT appeals to you the most right now, and tell us more about why this field of study appeals to you. (100 words or fewer).
  
• We know you lead a busy life full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do simply for the pleasure of it. (200–250 words).
  
• At MIT, we bring people together to better the lives of others. MIT students work to improve their communities in different ways, from tackling the world’s biggest challenges to being good friends. Describe one way in which you have contributed to your community, whether in your family, the classroom, your neighborhood, etc. (200–250 words).
  
• Tell us about a significant challenge you’ve faced or something that didn’t go according to plan that you feel comfortable sharing. How did you manage the situation? (200-250 words)

• MIT openly acknowledges admitting less than 10% of applicants; therefore, it is necessary to address the bigger goals in your life rather than having only the goal of seeking an admit.
  
• MIT encourages you to be the best version of yourself; therefore, give a succinct narrative of your background with emphasis on clearly defined academic and career goals.
  
• MIT emphasizes community building and student empowerment. Therefore, it is imperative to highlight these attributes.

2. Stanford University

Stanford University requires a common application/coalition application essay as part of BTech in Engineering applications:

• The Common Application statement should be limited to 650-700 words.

• Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.
  
• Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways- problem-solving, original and innovative thinking, or artistically. Describe how you express your creative side.
  
• What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
  
• Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier.
  
• Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.
  
• What have you done to make your school or community a better place?
  
• Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for admissions to the University of California?
