• Dottie West (1938-1991): Country music singer and songwriter
• Barry E. Wilmore (born 1962): NASA astronaut and United States Navy test pilot.
• Alison Piepmeier (1989): Professor of English and Women's and Gender Studies at the College of Charleston. She is the author of the book Girl Zines: Making Media, Doing Feminism.
• Charles G. Conn (1854-1931): The founder of Conn Selmer, one of the world's leading manufacturers of musical instruments.
• Leonna Lusk Officer (1965): First African American student to enrol at Tennessee Tech. She went on to become a successful educator and community leader.
• John R. Rice (1895-1980): A prominent minister and author who founded the Sword of the Lord, a conservative Christian magazine.
• Kathy Branum (1985): Former CEO of the Tennessee Valley Authority. She is the first woman to lead a major U.S. electric utility.
