Regis University is a private Jesuit institution located in Denver, Colorado. Established in 1877 by the Society of Jesus, the university provides over 120 degree programs across three colleges. Its offerings span a range of fields, including education, liberal arts, business, nursing, and technology. The university holds accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.
The institution's history traces back to 1877 when Italian Jesuits, exiled from their home country, founded Las Vegas College in Las Vegas, New Mexico. In 1884, the Bishop of Denver invited the Jesuits to establish a new college in Morrison, Colorado, leading to the creation of Sacred Heart College. By 1887, these two colleges merged and relocated to the site of the current Regis University. Originally named the College of the Sacred Heart, the institution was renamed Regis College in 1921 in honor of Saint John Francis Regis, a 17th-century Jesuit known for his missionary work with the poor and marginalized in Southern France. The preparatory division later separated, forming what is now Regis Jesuit High School.
Academics
Regis College offers traditional undergraduate programs and graduate programs, such as the Master of Arts in Education and the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences. These programs cater to recent high school graduates or transfer students with minimal professional work experience. Students at Regis College can choose from a wide variety of majors, minors, emphases, and pre-professional tracks. Many students aiming to enter fields such as nursing, physical therapy, or pharmacy often enroll in Regis College to complete their prerequisite coursework.
The Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions was established when Regis University integrated its sister institution, Loretto Heights College. The college features a nationally recognized nursing program and a leading physical therapy program. It is organized into three schools—the Loretto Heights School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy, and the School of Physical Therapy—and two divisions, the Division of Health Services Education and the Division of Counseling and Family Therapy. Additionally, the college offers three doctoral programs: the Doctor of Nursing Practice (delivered entirely online), the Doctor of Physical Therapy, and the Doctor of Pharmacy.

Regis University Global Ranking
The University is still awaiting its official rankings from prominent organisations such as QS, Times Higher Education, and US News and World Report. Despite its growing reputation and contributions to academia, the university has not yet been featured in the rankings published by these influential bodies. But it has been ranked at #273 out of 436 in National Universities by U.S. News in 2024.
Although the University continues to develop its academic programs and research initiatives, it remains unranked by these major international ranking institutions. The absence of a ranking from QS, Times Higher Education, and US News does not reflect the quality of education or research output but simply indicates that the university has not been formally assessed by these specific agencies.

Frequently asked questions
1: How does a master’s degree help me stand out to employers?
A: Industries today are becoming more complex, and employers are seeking people with deep subject matter expertise. They’re also looking for professionals with extensive interpersonal skills who can lead their organization forward. This combination is representative of master’s degree holders, which is why it’s not surprising that completions of master’s degrees increased by 31% between 2008 and 2018.
2: How does a master’s degree differ from a bachelor’s degree?
A: A master’s degree is a credential that proves your dedication to and knowledge of a subject. Unlike a bachelor’s degree–which focuses on breadth of knowledge through general education, major and elective courses–a master’s degree focuses on depth of knowledge in a specific area of expertise. A graduate degree allows you to focus on field related material, combine theory with practice, and develop academic writing and communication skills at a higher level.
