Campus

Location

There is no place like California's beautiful and mutli-cultural San Francisco Bay Area.  It is arguably the scenic, cultural and entertainment center of the American West.  Students will find exciting places to go and things to do, with the chance to discover all the sights and attractions of two major metropolitan settings-- San Francisco and San Jose/Silicon Valley-- just a 30-40 minute drive away.  Our internships programs also make it possible for students to get on-the-job experience and practical training with companies throughout the Bay Area.

Campus

When arriving at Cal State East Bay's main campus in the Hayward Hills, the first thing you will notice is the spectacular view of the entire San Francisco Bay Area.  You’ll also appreciate the green open spaces throughout the 364-acre campus. The Recreation and Wellness Center (RAW) is designed and built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Standard and boasts 54,000 square feet of fitness, recreation, and education space complete with state-of-the-art equipment. The Cal State East Bay University Union is the gathering place for the campus community and its guests. The environment of the Union is conducive to providing a wide range of services and experiences which recognize the cultural and social diversity and promote the potential of our campus family. When completed in 2021, the CORE will become a center for learning, engagement and collaboration located at the heart of Cal State East Bay’s hilltop campus. The CORE’s 21st-century academic library will teach students how to navigate the information age economy and become self-directed learners. The Student Center for Academic Achievement, located on the top floor, will focus on providing the skills needed for student inquiry, development and research. And, its Hub for Entrepreneurship — prominently placed on the ground floor — will provide a nexus for students and faculty to explore innovations that will propel the creative economy into the next generation and beyond.

Residing Options

Though on-campus housing is available, it is limited, and most Cal State East Bay students choose to live off campus and walk or commute to school.  2-4 bedroom apartments are available on campus in Pioneer Heights or University Village.  See on-campus housing for more information. Many students live in off-campus apartments, rented rooms or in shared houses. There are several apartment facilities located within walking distance or accessible to campus by public transit (the university offers a free shuttle bus from campus to nearby BART train stations throughout the day).

Faculty

CSUEB professors are dedicated to student success-- in the classroom and beyond. Cal State East Bay has garnered national acclaim for the excellence of its faculty. Our location in the midst of the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area enables us to attract committed faculty members who are not only recognized experts in their fields, but are often world-renowned in their disciplines, including the fields of business, technology, public service, the arts and education.  This allows us to offer you a strong academic course of study and a real- world curriculum that will prepare you for a lifetime of personal achievement and career success.

Dr. Luz Calva, a science professor recently released his cook book on ‘How to decolonize your diet’. Jacqueline Doyle, an English literature teacher, won an award for the ‘Best Essay in America’. Bringing learning of all sorts on one table, Prof. Futterman proposed to teach dyslexic students and signed a legislation to get it raised as law. Music goes well with learning and what better than learning it from a nationally acclaimed artist. Pat Klobas, a CSUEB faculty member is also a nationally renowned bass player, students and teachers are excited to visit his upcoming show in the campus.

Jobs and placements

Preparing for your career is part of your education at Cal State East Bay so that you are career-ready following graduation. Academic Advising and Career Education (AACE) counselors and resources-- from individual personalized career assessment and advising sessions to regular workshops and on-campus job fairs-- empower students in career exploration and preparation and help students clarify and attain their career goals. AACE advising staff have Master’s degrees in Counseling or Career Services, years of experience working with students, as well as cross-cultural sensitivity and a solid understanding of the special needs of international students looking for internships and practical training.

Cal State East Bay uses a jobs database called Handshake where students can find part-time jobs on-campus, as well as internships and full-time jobs. Students can also post resumes, research companies, schedule on-campus interviews, and learn about AACE Events (Career Fairs, Employer Information Sessions, Professional Development Workshops, and other networking events).

CSUEB faculty and alumni are directly tied to a great network of contacts in leading industries throughout the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Cal State East Bay’s location just a 30-40 minute drive from San Francisco and Silicon Valley is ideal for students looking for practical training in the field. Last year over 800 CSUEB students were doing OPT and STEM OPT throughout the Bay Area.
