Steps to follow right after receiving your I20
Below are the steps which you are generally supposed to follow post receiving your I20.
- First and foremost step is to check your information on the I20 document. Verify your name, DOB, Address and any other personal information mentioned on it. If you see anything is mentioned incorrectly, request your university to update the data
- Start filling your DS160 form. Keep it in mind that DS160, passport and I20 will be used in Visa Interview. Make sure you fill all the relevant details correctly and to the best of your knowledge.
- Regulation requires all prospective F and M students to pay the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Fee before the Department of State issues you a visa.Make sure to pay your SEVIS fees and keep the receipt. Visa officer may verify it.
- Look for finance. You can opt for a collateral or non collateral loan from a banks, nbfc's or inteernational lenders. Finalize you loan and make sure to get the loan approved. If you already have enough funds, ensure to get the required proof so that you can show it to your Visa Officer if required.
- You need to Book Visa Date to appear for Visa Interview with US Consulate. The US visa appointment available dates vary from country to country and location to location. It is not mandatory to schedule your appointment in the same location as in your DS-160. But if you have to attend your visa interview at a different location, you are still allowed to do so.
Hope this helps!
