Quite a few people have asked me regarding my experience with Gre edge. I'm writing this review so that it anyone who is looking out for online counseling understands what it exactly means. So here it goes.
I received calls from gre edge multiple times during my gre prep and as I was using magoosh at the time I did not feel the need for another online prep tool. I wasn't really paying attention until they offered me their SOP Program which included LORs as well. Their system works on the basis of a questionnaire which I initially thought would be used only for understanding my profile and drafting the sop and lors for my choice of course, boy! was I wrong ????. They provided the first draft of one of the LORs after a month of me completing the questionnaire and the for the other 2 i had to call them atleast thrice a day to make sure they are working on it and it was delivered the night before the day i planned to visit my professors for getting the letters approved and signed. The first LOR was a decent draft but the other two were literary equivalent of utter BS with grammatical mistakes across the entire draft. One of them was too short and shabbily written. I was short on time and hence I made the corrections and got them approved. By this time I understood why a lot of people had warned me against Gre edge. Then came the master draft of the SOP. This was also delivered pretty late (delayed by multiple weeks) but honestly I took my time with the questions for the sop and wanted to leave out no detail. The sales team that sold me the program was nowhere to be found neither was their fancy feedback button working when I read their draft and was hugely disappointed. The draft which was a copy paste of my answers directly along with their way of making complex sentences by combining two answers from the questionnaire which made no sense. I tried to reach out to their quality team and reached a person named Mr. Subhra who told me on the phone that I was the one who did not understand what a good draft meant and they knew what the university wanted but what really takes the cake is that he told me it doesn't matter what I think of the draft because the university will find it so attractive that it will be guarantee me an admit. Now I'm not bragging but I scored a perfect 30 on Toefl writing ; I like to think that I have a good idea about what a good draft would look like. They couldn't change it even after I requested the counselor to improve it . She tried to tell me that this is an amazing draft and that I should apply to more safe universities as the only 3 universities that I was applying to were ambitious and are based on luck. I missed a university deadline due to this and told them I don't want to continue with their services and that they should charge me for their LORs and refund me the proportionate amount as I have used the Lors but the sop is worth nothing to me. After spending endess calls taking to this guy, he said he'll process my refund and wants a chance to ameliorate the experience I've had so far. I told him to not waste his time and just process the refund. I haven't received any communication from them till last week as they called to ask me if i had received any admits (I do). I told them I won't be sharing this info with them.
All in all, it's a scam and a pathetic way of going about your sop/lor needs.
Some folks may have had good experiences with gre edge but me and a couple of my acquaintances did not. This seems to be a case with vast majority of the people who chose this program.
My recommendation would be going to a counselor whom who can meet in person and has a good track record. The only reason i went with this was that my job did not allow me a lot of time to spend on my application and it did seem convenient at the time to have an online counselor. It was a complete waste of time and money.
