Life as a Tech Student in Munich - The Real Deal
Everyone talks about studying in Germany being free, but what's it actually like? After 18 months here, thought I'd share the real experience of being a Computer Engineering student at TU Munich.
Classes here hit different. It's not just about coding - there's huge emphasis on research and innovation. Currently working on an autonomous systems project with industry partners. The best part? Most projects can turn into job opportunities.
Daily life in Munich is surprisingly comfortable on a student budget. Found affordable housing through the student union (after getting tips from seniors on Yocket). Bike everywhere to save on transport, cook most meals at home. The city's expensive, but there are always ways to manage.
The tech scene here is incredible. Munich's becoming a major tech hub, with companies like Apple and Google setting up offices. Went to three tech meetups last month alone - great for networking and free pizza!
Job prospects? Looking pretty good. German companies value the practical experience you get during studies. Already got offers for working student positions at two startups. The post-study work visa makes it easier to transition into a full-time role after graduating.
Would I recommend this path? If you're ready to learn a new language and adapt to a different system, absolutely. The quality of education and opportunities here are worth the initial effort.
