GAP YEAR !!!!

Hey guys, I will be graduating in 2024. But I do have not a very appealing profile. So in order to level it up I am thinking about taking a gap year for exam preperation( GRE, TOEFL), research paper publication and brushing up my skills before MS through extra courses, and hence applying for Fall 25. Please share your views, if this is a good option or not?
