USQ is situated in Queensland, known for being one of the most populous cities of Australia. Also, it is the second-largest which means that you have to have reliable means of transport to move around the city. Thankfully, if you cannot afford your own car, there are public transports like buses and taxis to come to your rescue.
USQ comprises of four campuses – Fraser Coast Campus, Springfield Campus, Ipswich Campus and Toowoomba. The majority of students attend the Toowoomba campus. This particular campus has a library apart from the lecture theatres, which resemble the classrooms of Harvard, gymnasiums with highly advanced equipment, a centre to perform aerobics and basketball courts, which can easily be compared with the Olympic standard. The Fraser Coast Campus has a $800,000 library which has a massive collection of books and ample green spaces to hang out/study along with computer labs and cafes.
You get on-campus accommodation here with all the basic facilities such as the internet, meals and cleaning services. Keep in mind that although the management sends cleaners, it is ultimately you and your roommates’ responsibility to keep the place clean. If you indeed decide to stay on-campus, it would be the perfect opportunity for you to make friends, both local and international. If you decide that living independently is more your cup of tea and you need space and privacy, then off-campus housing should be your choice, provided you can afford it.
The professors are thoroughly professional but also friendly and approachable at the same time. If you are on good terms with them, you might also be invited to parties.
Jobs and placements
You can get placements locally and if you are ambitious, enough then there is also a chance for you to work in both Europe, Asia and America (Denmark, Indonesia, Japan, USA, Singapore, Thailand). But, you need to really work hard for international placements since there are a limited number of seats. You need to be in regular contact, with the Professional Experience Office for updates on placements.
USQ frequently hosts a career fair where a large number of organisations from various career fields come and interact with the students. One of the key benefits of attending this kind of fair is that you get to clarify any doubt that you have about a particular industry straight from the horse’s mouth.
