The JN Tata Endowment is one of India's oldest and most prestigious merit-based loan scholarship programs, established in 1892 by the visionary founder of the Tata Group, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. For over 131 years, the Endowment has upheld its mission to send "the best and most gifted" Indian students abroad for higher studies so they can become of the "greatest service to the country." It has supported more than 5,700 scholars across a diverse range of fields including Master’s, Ph.D., and Post-doctoral fellowships at top global universities.

Unlike a typical scholarship, the Endowment provides a loan scholarship for the initial year of study, which is supplemented by a gift scholarship for the most exceptional candidates, meaning a portion of the loan does not need to be repaid. The application window for the 2025-2026 academic year is now open and will close on March 23, 2025. This guide will walk you through the entire process, from eligibility and the unique application steps to the loan amount and repayment details, helping you prepare for this incredible opportunity to advance your education on the global stage.
