Campus

Location

Worcester Polytechnic Institute sits in the city of Worcester in New England. This university neither has any gates nor is interrupted by any city roads. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute which is situated in Boynton Hill has a lively neighborhood consisting of a bevy of restaurants and stores on Highland Street.

Campus

The main campus of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute is privately owned and is away from the city. This campus is well endowed with all necessary infrastructures which are required for the purpose of research and development.
The campus consists of a laboratory for electromagnetic research which was known as “the Skull Tomb”. This was built entirely without the use of any ferrous metals. The Boynton building as well as Washburn building are the places which house majority of the classroom along with some laboratories. Besides this, the Worcester Polytechnic Institute also has one of the thirty five civilian research nuclear reactors which have been licensed to operate in the United States. The Higgins laboratory is another important laboratory which this university boasts about.

Residing Options

For providing additional convenience to students who are desirous of staying off campus, Worcester Polytechnic Institute has launched an online portal by the name ‘jumpoffcampus’ which acts as link between the landlords who are desirous of keeping tenants and students who are keen on staying in an off campus accommodation. Although the university does not take any guarantee of such private lease contracts, nevertheless it ensures that apartment listings of only genuine landlords are kept on their portal. The cost of such accommodation differs depending on if you want an apartment or a studio apartment. Normally, however, the cost of such accommodations is around $600 for a fairly decent apartment.

Faculty

All the faculty members of Worcester Polytechnic Institute are not just academically brilliant but have also achieved various awards and titles in their respective fields of specialization:

  • David Adams – a Biology professor was the first person to develop a mouse;
  • George Phillies – a Libertarian presidential candidate was a professor of Physics
  • Albert Saco Jr. – who was an astronaut, was in fact, a former professor and Department Head for Chemical Engineering.
  • Jobs and placements

    The career centre does its bit to place the students majorly in areas of engineering, operations, IT and research. The emphasis is pretty much in the same order. Some of the known companies that have absorbed talent from the university include EMC, Raytheon, BAE Systems, and Pratt & Whitney. According to Princeton Review (2016) the university has earned 10th rank in the arena for career placements. Even companies like Facebook and Jhonson & Jhonson have recently made their debut on their campus during the career fair. The students here seem to be in good demand for both internship and final placements.
