In the Detroit metropolitan area, transportation is supplied through a network of highways, airports, and transit systems that connect the city of Detroit and the surrounding area. The region's network of highways and main roads is managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
Through a cooperative service and fare agreement managed by the Regional Transit Authority, the region offers mass transit with bus services supplied jointly by the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) (RTA).
