Munster Technological University (MTU) is a public institution comprising six campuses located across Cork and Kerry. Established in January 2021, the university was formed through the merger of Cork Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology, Tralee. The creation of MTU was first announced in May 2020.
Today, MTU serves a student body of more than 18,000, supported by over 2,000 staff members. Initial plans for a technological university in the region considered a three-way merger with Waterford Institute of Technology, an option that was explored as early as 2012.
Munster Technological University is yet to receive official QS, Times Higher Education, and US News and World Reports rankings.
