All students, staff, and visitors are encouraged to travel sustainably at Winchester University, which offers several green transportation initiatives and discounts on public transportation and local vendors. 


Services offered by the university

  • The Quarter is home to a bookshop, café, dining hall, a bar with a terrace, and a gourmet burger joint. In addition, it contains the Martial Rose Library, which is open 24 hours a day. 
  • The University's business school and the Link Gallery are found in West Downs Quarter. The center has a wide variety of social learning areas with advanced facilities. 
  • In recent years, the campus has undergone significant redevelopment to modernize it. As of 2007, the former refectory was reconstructed into the University Center, complete with a student union, catering facilities, a bookshop, a convenience store, and a social learning space. It also includes The Vault, a 1,200-seat event space used for screenings, concerts, and parties.

Student life at University of Winchester

This University's campus is divided into four quarters, including the King Alfred Quarter, the Medecroft Quarter, the Bar End Quarter, and the West Downs Quarter. A large part of the University's student population resides in the King Alfred Quarter, which is located near the city of Winchester.

  • The Winchester Student Union is an organization run by and for students at the University. The Student Union is located in the University Center and has a cinema screen, three bars, a shop, and a 550-seat capacity venue.
  • Over 90 student societies can be found in Winchester Student Union, including performing arts, anime and manga, comic books, and debating societies.
  • The university has over forty sports teams, including Football, Netball, Hockey, Rugby Sevens, Tennis, and Basketball. Typically, most of these teams participate in BUSA, SESSA and local leagues.

The Winchester University offers accommodation on campus and in the West Downs Student Village, which is located nearby. Among the residence halls are:

  • The bedrooms are perfect for groups, sports clubs, long-term summer lets, and conference delegates, with discounts available for large groups.
  • All rooms are well-equipped with bed linen and towels, and en-suite bathrooms include a wash basin, a shower, and a toilet.
  • Bedroom blocks are typically divided into flats of 7, 8, or 9 bedrooms with a shared kitchen in each apartment where tea/coffee making facilities are provided. 
  • The University provides catering services via its own in-house team that has gained a reputation for delivering high-quality meals over the years. It offers a wide assortment of menus, including organic, free-range, and ethically sourced offerings sourced from the region and local suppliers.
