Located in Winchester, Hampshire, England, Winchester University is a public research university. In 1840, it was founded as the Winchester Diocesan Training School to train elementary school teachers. The University was granted its current title by the Privy Council in 2005, after significant changes. Moreover, in 2008, this council granted authorization for this University to award research degrees.

Students can enroll in Winchester University masters courses and graduate courses in a wide variety of subjects within the Arts, Humanities, Health and Social Care, Business, Law, Sport, and Education.   • The Quarter is home to a bookshop, café, dining hall, a bar with a terrace, and a gourmet burger joint. In addition, it contains the Martial Rose Library, which is open 24 hours a day. 
  • The University's business school and the Link Gallery are found in West Downs Quarter. The center has a wide variety of social learning areas with advanced facilities. 
  • In recent years, the campus has undergone significant redevelopment to modernize it. As of 2007, the former refectory was reconstructed into the University Center, complete with a student union, catering facilities, a bookshop, a convenience store, and a social learning space. It also includes The Vault, a 1,200-seat event space used for screenings, concerts, and parties.

Student life

This University's campus is divided into four quarters, including the King Alfred Quarter, the Medecroft Quarter, the Bar End Quarter, and the West Downs Quarter. A large part of the University's student population resides in the King Alfred Quarter, which is located near the city of Winchester.

  • The Winchester Student Union is an organization run by and for students at the University. The Student Union is located in the University Center and has a cinema screen, three bars, a shop, and a 550-seat capacity venue.
  • Over 90 student societies can be found in Winchester Student Union, including performing arts, anime and manga, comic books, and debating societies.
  • The university has over forty sports teams, including Football, Netball, Hockey, Rugby Sevens, Tennis, and Basketball. Typically, most of these teams participate in BUSA, SESSA and local leagues.
