Philipps University of Marburg is a public research institution situated in Marburg, Germany. Established in 1527 by Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse, it is one of the oldest universities in Germany and holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest Protestant university still in operation. Although originally founded as a Protestant institution, it is now a public university of the state of Hesse with no religious affiliation.

The university serves approximately 23,500 students and employs about 7,500 staff members. Located in the town of Marburg, which has a population of around 76,000, the university's buildings are spread throughout the town centre and its surroundings. With around 14% of its students coming from abroad, it boasts the highest percentage of international students in Hesse. Additionally, the university offers an International Summer University program and participates in student exchanges through the Erasmus programme.

A: Your letter of acceptance will inform you when and where you can register. Please be sure to bring all of the documents indicated on the notice, as registration is otherwise impossible. You will receive your student ID after successful registration. If you're an exchange student, registration can also take place during the orientation program.

2: How can one pay a semester contribution?

A: If you participate in our orientation program, you do not have to pay the semester contribution from your home country. You can do this with our help during the orientation program in Marburg. If you do not participate in our orientation program, you must wire the contributions and fees before enrollment.
