Louisiana Tech University is popularly known as Louisiana tech or La. Tech founded in the year 1894, is a coeducational public research university in Ruston, Louisiana, United States. During its establishment at the time of the second industrial revolution, it was known as Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana. Over the years, the college changed its name to Louisiana industrial institute to Louisiana Polytechnic Institute. In the 1960s, the university officially became Louisiana Tech University.

The University is ranked at 154 as the best university for research and ranked 389 all over the USA according to Forbes edition of Best colleges for the year 2015. The Centre for world University rankings has given 184th rank to the university in USA and 625th across the globe. In terms of least amount of debt, the Louisiana Tech is ranked no.1 among public universities and no.6 among national universities by US News and World report.

Campus

Location

The Louisiana Tech University has two campuses. The core campus is situated in Ruston, Louisiana. The south campus is located in the southwest of Ruston campus. Ruston is near the eastern border of the Ark-La-Tex region and is the home of Louisiana Tech University, hence, the economy is based on its college population. Ruston hosts the annual Peach Festival and is the principal city of the Ruston Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Lincoln parish. The important roads intersecting at the Louisiana Tech campus are Tech Drive, California Avenue, and Alabama avenue. Louisiana Tech University also has satellite campus at Barksdale air force base in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Campus

The central campus currently measures 280 acres. It has 86 buildings which include 22 buildings that include apartments. The campus has Howard auditorium, Robinson Hall, Bogard Hall, Tolliver Hall, Keeny hall, Reese Hall, and University Hall. The Tolliver Hall is the student centre on the campus. The newly constructed Davison hall holds the Department of Aviation.

The south campus measures 900 acres. It has a school for agriculture and forestry, the center for rural development, Horticulture farm, Tech Farm and Equine center. The complex for forestry and plant science has Louisiana Tech greenhouse and spatial data laboratory. The Prescott memorial library was started by Colonel Prescott who donated 125 books from his personal collection. In the year 1957, the library had around 60000 volumes.

Residing Options

The Quadrangle on the central campus is arguably the most beautiful locations on the campus. Students come here to relax, study or hang out with friends. There are a variety of residence options available at La Tech University. There are traditional residential halls as well as apartments. Each of these has its benefits. The life of residency at La Tech offers great opportunities for social engagement through social events and clubs.


There are a variety of apartments available near the university campus. If you want to live off-campus, then you can opt for these apartments. The rents vary according to the location, and the resources an apartment offers. Approximately, you can rent an apartment on the minimum value of $900. You can share it with your friends, just to save some expenses. Accomodation for female students are very limited, though.

Faculty

The staff at La tech is well-accomplished in their fields. A large number of them hold doctoral degrees. Apart from training programs for students, the Louisiana tech has training programs for faculty development as well. The Centre for academic and professional development (CAPD) provides many development opportunities for the teaching staff. The center organizes workshops and seminars for the teaching staff to hone and develops their skills. They help the staff in learning new teaching methods, use of digital measures to teach the students. The center also keeps a lot of learning material for staff to develop their teaching skills. The CAPD is dedicated to providing support to faculty about teaching and learning.

Jobs and placements

The career center at La Tech University aims at bridging the gap between the corporate world and students. They also help students in making right career choices. They aid students in developing skills that required for a particular job. They also conduct online tests to help students about placements.

The Student Recruiters is the organization that tours the campus on a weekly basis. They also assist the campus programs, including - Time Out for Tech and Legacy Day. Many students have been recruited by them through weekly tours, and other student programs.
