The HAN University of Applied Sciences, commonly abbreviated as HAN, is one of the Netherlands' largest universities of applied sciences. HAN University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1996 and has about 36,000 students. HAN is a higher education knowledge institute with campuses in Arnhem and Nijmegen, as well as a research centre in Doetinchem, in the Dutch province of Gelderland.

Transportation in the city

The HAN University of Applied Sciences itself does not provide any transportation services; however, an OV chip card can be used on trains, buses, trams, metros and ferries throughout the country. There are other transportation options like Dutch Railways (NS), Thalys, Belgian Railways (NMBS/SNCB) and others.


Services offered by the university

The HAN University of Applied Sciences campus provides facilities that are thought to be favorable to learning.

  • Both campuses have excellent facilities, including large study centres, several multimedia centres, modern lecture halls, high-tech laboratories, IT facilities, and ample social areas.
  • There are canteens and cafeterias in each building that serve a choice of drinks, snacks, and healthful meals.
  • There are various eateries on the campuses as well. They look after sporting facilities and clubs.

Student life

The Arnhem campus and the Nijmegen campus are the two campuses of  HAN University of Applied Sciences.

  • The students  can take part in various cultural activities at the HAN University of Applied Sciences. They can also become a part of various student clubs according to their interest. 
  • HAN also provides various sports facilities for its students so they can remain fit and active.

On campus accomodation

HAN University of Applied Sciences does not offer on-campus accommodation facilities. Non-EU/EEA students and exchange students in their first semester or year are largely served by the HAN Housing Office. After that, they'll have to find their own lodging.

  • Due to a nationwide housing crisis, finding a place to stay in Arnhem and Nijmegen can be challenging. As a result, make sure you begin your search as soon as possible!
  • The majority of accommodations offer a private and shared room for students.
