Having featured among the top few countries on the Better Life Index, Ireland is a preferred study destination among international students, including Indians. With more than 30 higher education institutions offering over 5,000 courses which lead to globally-recognised and high quality qualifications, it is one of the top English-speaking destinations. It also offers a range of funding opportunities for meritorious international students across streams.

With a focus on this, the Irish government is inviting applications for 60 International Education Scholarships for students from non-European Union/European Economic Area countries for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Fast Facts

  • The International Education Scholarships to Ireland include full fee waiver covering €10,000 for one year of study
  • 60 scholarships will be provided to those enrolled in the Irish higher education institutions at the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels
  • The scheme is open to students from non-EU/ EEA countries
  • Application deadline is March 25, 2022

Managed by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, the scholarships will be valid for study across all disciplines, subject to the availability of places.

Applications from students who are going to join Irish universities at the undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD levels for the 2022-2023 academic year in September/October will be considered. Those with a conditional or final offer from an Irish higher education institution will be preferred.

The scholarships will be awarded to high-calibre higher education students to study full-time for a period of one year. The funding of €10,000 for one year includes student costs and living expenses.

The scholarships may be for the final year of an undergraduate programme, one year of a taught master’s programme or one year of a research programme such as one year of a two-year research master’s and a three-year PhD program. The selected candidates will be given a full fee waiver i.e. tuition fee and registration charges waiver by the university.

To be successful at bagging the funding, applicants must possess professional and academic excellence; must be good with their communication skills; must be good at extra-curricular work and must have a strong rationale for pursuing higher education in Ireland.

In order to apply for scholarships in Ireland, applicants need to cover details of academic qualifications, achievements, work experience (if any), and a personal statement explaining how they will contribute beyond their studies to become actively involved in the Irish society and how they will maximise their academic and cultural experience. An assessment panel by the HEA will evaluate the applications and the top 12 applications will automatically be funded, as they will represent the top 20% of all awarded scholarships under the scheme.

The application deadline is March 25, 2022 and successful candidates will be notified by June 1, 2022. Some of the participating universities in Ireland under the scheme include American College Dublin; Dublin City University; CCT College Dublin; Griffith College; Trinity College, University College Cork and University of Limerick.
