Founded in 1831, Wesleyan University is a private institute that has 2,928 undergraduates, it has an urban setting and follows a semester system. In 2016, Wesleyan University got the 14th spot under the Best Colleges of the country category. This is one of the primary colleges which introduced coeducation and admitted female students in the middle 1800s till the early 1900s after which they were officially admitted again from 1970. It is one of the oldest Methodist College in the nation. It offers degrees like Master of Arts, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy.

Campus

Location

The campus stretches for around 316 acres and is situated in Middletown, Connecticut. Middletown was initially a lively sailing port and later it turned into an industrial center and presently it is mostly residential and its downtown acts as a fairly well-known entertainment, retail and dining district located near Wesleyan University.

Campus

The campus is the home of over 340 buildings and Olin Memorial Library, Andrus Public Affairs Center, Shanklin and Hall-Atwater Laboratories, the Van Vleck Observatory, Russell House, The Allbritton Center and the Exley Science Center are some of the buildings among these. In 2007, the Usdan University Center opened and it served as a dining space for both students and faculty. This particular building is also used for seminars, meetings and various kinds of students’ activities like assemblies.
There are dormitories named Butterfield and Fauver field here; the students can either live in the old dorms (without air conditioning) which need upgrading or in the new ones. Benett is the best place to stay while one is a freshman and if you are into sports then Clark is the place for you.

Residing Options

Wesleyan university also maintains a database of some of the properties in around the campus which are available for being leased out to students. Some of the off campus accommodations in locations like Middletown where there are 2 bedroom apartments while in the area of Higganum there are couple of three bedroom apartments which are usually leased out to students. Apart from these, there are accommodations available in the Cromwell, Fairfield, Long Lane area as well.

Faculty

Wesleyan University has a student-faculty ratio of 8:1 and fewer than 20 students can be found in 71.9 percent of the classes. Psychology, Psychobiology, English language and Literature, Political Science, Economics are some of them majors which are immensely popular here. This university is known for striking a balance between freedom and seriousness.
The teachers are available whenever you need them and more often than not they invite you to have lunch with them and discuss doubts and other issues over it. The course process can be quite stressful for students because the faculty is pretty strict in this matter and takes in only students who fulfill certain criteria. But once you get in those classes, the quality of teaching totally makes up for that stress.
T.S. Eliot, V.S.Naipaul, Donald Hall, Richard Wilbur are some of the former faculty members/affiliates.

Greenpeace USA, Harvard University, Americans for the Arts, HarperCollins Publishers and CBS News are the frequent employers who take in Wesleyan University’s students for jobs and internships. The Wesleyan Career Resource Center gives the students one-on-one counseling on pretty much everything, starting from summer internships to graduate schools and other kinds of jobs.
