The University of Rostock is a public university in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It was founded in 1419. It is Germany’s third-oldest university, the oldest university in continental northern Europe and the Baltic Sea area, and 8th oldest in Central Europe. It was the fifth university to be established by the Holy Roman Empire.
Three Nobel Laureates are associated with the university. It is also an aesthetically pleasing university and was called the most beautiful university in Germany by Times Higher Education in 2018. The courses are taught mainly in German and English is used for some postgraduate courses.
