Umeå University is a public research institution located in Umeå, a city in the mid-northern region of Sweden. Established in 1965, it is the fifth-oldest university within Sweden's current borders.
As of 2015, the university has a student body of over 36,000 registered students, with approximately 16,000 studying full-time. This includes postgraduate and doctoral students. The university employs more than 4,000 staff members, with half serving as teachers and researchers, among them 310 professors. Umeå University is internationally recognized for its research in the genome of the poplar tree and the Norway Spruce, as well as for its highly regarded Institute of Industrial Design.
Facilities and Departments
