The Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania was established in the year 1871. Initially, it was known as Cumberland Valley State Nomad School. The John L. Grove college of Business at Shippensburg University has received high rankings for being the best school for Undergraduate business programs. The University has been ranked at 100 in the regional University category amongst the Northern region Universities by the magazine best colleges in the year 2013.

The Shippensburg University is located 40 miles south-west of Harrisburg in Pennsylvania. The Shippensburg region was formed in the year 1819. Earlier, Shippensburg was known to manufacture furniture, electrical pumps and many other industrial works. The corporate organisation of Beistle is located in Shippensburg. Also, the Pague and Fegan which the oldest store for hardware is situated in Pennsylvania.


The Ezra Lehman memorial library is located on the Shippensburg campus. The library has more than 3, 50,000 books, more than 73000 audiovisual material and many other resources. The library building is the perfect place for study. The study place has very comfortable sitting areas. The library is also well-equipped with private study rooms, semi-private study rooms for group studies. It provides study areas for people who want to study alone. The library building also provides informal spots for hanging out with friends.
Also, the students can buy beverages from in-house Starbucks coffee shopwhile spending time at the library. The library has an approachable and helpful “Ask us anything” desk that guides students very effectively. The learning centre in the library building provides tutoring services and academic help to students who need it. Also, faculty to help regarding instructional design and development is available.
The library building is well-equipped with over 50 laptops as well as 75 desktop and printing facilities. The library has three different places for teleconferencing. The Shippensburg University also has Grace B. Luhrs library for students of elementary school.

Residing Options

There are traditional residential halls for new students as well as transfer students having less than 30 credits. The residence hall has rooms that will be occupied by two people and the community bathroom will be shared by everybody. Each room will be provided with a bed, dresser, wardrobe and a desk. The residential halls are common for both boys and girls. These halls have many facilities such as laundry, study rooms, television and gaming room etc.
The Shippensburg University campus also has Stone Ridge Commons apartments as a part of the on-campus housing. The apartments are well-equipped with bedrooms, one bathroom, refrigerator, kitchen and many other amenities. The various residential halls are Naugle Hall, Presidents hall, Keiffer hall, Seavers hall, Lack hove hall, Mccune Hall. The summer housing is provided to the students who are enrolled in summer’s bridge program.
The Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania diligently maintains a database of all the accommodations and/or real estate agents who are interested in leasing out apartments to students. While doing so, however, the university exercises caution and disclaims that it has not personally visited or inspected the campus.
Some of the latest additions to the apartment listings have been Hot Point Commons, College Park Commons both of which are in close proximity from the university and provide the students with all the latest amenities. Besides these two, there are several other options available as well like Britton Court Apartments, Bard Townhouses, Rock Towne Apartments, Chateau Terrace Apartments, Creekside Court etc. The average cost of these apartments is somewhere around $2000 along with a deposit.


At Shippensburg University, the student teacher ratio is 20:1. There is total of 325 full-time faculty members. Of these, 95 percent have doctoral degrees. All the classes are held by well-qualified faculty members and not graduate assistants.
The faculty ensures students learn through field trips, research and real-life experiences, apart from classroom learning. There are flexible study options as well as online study programs for all the students. Studying abroad is also facilitated by the curriculum. These programs and methods are very helpful in achieving success.

Jobs and placements

As a part of the placement process, the General education program of Shippensburg University ensures that all the students undertake Placement testing. Placement testing involves testing knowledge in the areas of maths and English. Students that are required to take up placement testing will be sent a notification from the testing office. The office also guides students with regard to placements and career choices.
