Students can choose various transportation options for transportation to the university premises. The San Francisco Bay Area has numerous transportation options, including BART, CalTrain, bus service, and San Francisco's famous cable cars. The local County Connection bus service provides free bus service to the Saint Mary's community. Routes beginning on the Saint Mary's campus are free; transfers to other routes are charged at regular fare.

Route 250 of the Gael Rail is a supplemental shuttle service between Saint Mary's and Lafayette BART that begins when the regular CCCTA service ends.

  • On-campus, there are four Living Learning Communities. The Honors/Science living-learning community in Assumption Hall is only available to first-year students. Live-in tutors specializing in the sciences and humanities, as well as live-in faculty, contribute to creating this intellectually stimulating and supportive community.
  •  The International Community is located in Claeys Hall North, and it is a place where both international and domestic students can learn important skills for cross-cultural communication and global living. 
  • The majority of the campus's principal buildings are built in the California Churrigueresque style, with the remainder of the campus built in other styles of Spanish Colonial Revival or Mission Revival architecture.
  • At Saint Mary's, all first-year students live on campus. On-campus, 55 per cent of the total student population lives. There are six residence halls for first-year students (Augustine, Justin, Mitty, De La Salle, Aquinas, and Assumption Halls). Except for Aquinas, all first-year residence halls are set up "community-style," with two or three students sharing a room and the entire floor sharing a central bathroom.
