Private Jesuit research institution Saint Louis University (SLU) has campuses in Madrid, Spain, and St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States. It is the second-oldest Jesuit university in the United States and the oldest university west of the Mississippi River. Louis William Valentine DuBourg founded it in 1818. It is one of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities' 27 member institutions.


The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools has granted university accreditation. 12,883 students were enrolled at SLU for the 2021–2022 school year. 8,138 undergraduate and 4,745 graduate students, who represent all 50 states and 82 countries, made up the student population. Transportation in the city

On the campuses of SLU, a single registered vehicle is permitted at a time per parking permit. Information must be kept up to date prior to parking because your licence plate or plates will act as the virtual permit number. 34 metered spaces along Laclede Ave. are also available for two hours of parking through Parking and Card Services. Use the TapRide app to make a ride request through SLU Ride. Only call for a trip when you're prepared to go, and wait inside until your SLU Ride driver honks to let you know they're on the way.


Services offered by the university

  • The College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Philosophy and Letters, the School of Medicine, the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing, the College for Public Health and Social Justice, the School of Social Work, the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, the School of Education, the School of Law, the Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology, and the School for Professional Studies. The university also runs the Center for Advanced Dental Education, which grants degrees.
  • One of the oldest and most prestigious Catholic institutions in the country is located in Saint Louis, Missouri, and has a campus in Madrid, Spain. SLU, which was founded in 1818, is renowned for its top-notch academics, groundbreaking research, compassionate medical treatment, and unwavering devotion to faith and service.
  • The 120,000 square foot Simon Recreation Center serves as the centre for all school health and fitness activities. In addition to other attractions, it has a swimming pool, whirlpool, sports courts, a climbing wall, fitness centre, spinning studio, indoor track, locker rooms, and lounge areas.
  • An eight-lane track and a soccer field made of real grass are also part of the Medical Center Recreational Complex. The complex also houses SLU's track and field team, the biggest NCAA Division I sports team at the university, in addition to club sports and drop-in recreation.
  • The general academic library is called Pius XII Memorial Library. It contains 48 study rooms available for use by students and houses more than 2.2 million books and e-books. More seating and study spaces, designated noise zones, and the construction of an Academic Technology Common on the first floor are a few of the library's recent improvements.

Student life

The SLU campus in Midtown St. Louis spans more than 282 acres (114.1 hectares) and has 129 buildings. There are two points along Grand Boulevard where this region is divided. The majority of undergraduate instruction is conducted on the north campus, often known as the Frost Campus, which is close to I-64 and houses the university's residence halls. The Saint Louis University Hospital, the Doisy Research Center, and several athletic facilities may be found on the south campus, which is situated just south of Chouteau Avenue. On the south campus, health science instruction predominates. In Scott Hall in the heart of St. Louis, the Saint Louis University School of Law is situated.

  • A wide range of programmes and events are offered by the university's Campus Ministry, including opportunity to attend Holy Mass and several spiritual retreat possibilities. In order to expose students to the social injustices and inequities that exist across the United States, the ministry regularly organises "immersion excursions."
  • Immersion activities include a week-long tour and subsequent reflection sessions.
  • These journeys will take place in Mobile, Alabama, the Navajo Nation, Los Angeles, California, and Chicago, Illinois, among other places. With these opportunities, student leadership training is also provided.
  • With the help of SLU's nine Learning Communities (LCs), first-year and second-year students can live in the same residence hall and take classes that are focused on a specific major, component of social identity and experience, or academic interest.
  • To encourage community involvement, the Center for Social Action collaborates with the campus ministry and student organisations. The Center also collaborates with university professors to, if possible, integrate service into their curricula.
  • Over 240 student groups at Saint Louis University serve a wide range of interests, such as student government, club sports, media and publishing, performing arts, religion, and volunteerism and service.
  • There are seven sororities and female fraternities from the National Panhellenic Conference and six fraternities from the North American Interfraternity Conference in Saint Louis.

On campus accomodation

The university put 2,300 Echo Dots, the hardware for Alexa, Amazon's "smart assistant," in dorm rooms for the 2018–19 academic year. SLU is the first institution or university in the US to install an Amazon Alexa-capable device in every dorm room and student apartment on Albertus Magnus College Campus.

  •  Residence halls and student housing are available in Saint Louis. Students are obliged to reside on campus during their first four semesters at SLU as a requirement of the university's First Year Experience (FYE) programme, unless they travel from outside the St. Louis metropolitan region.
  • In addition to the 16 stories in its main structure, the Griesedieck Complex also features 9 floors that are attached to its west and east sides as Clemens Hall and Walsh Hall, respectively. To accommodate future larger freshmen classes and to house sophomores as needed, both halls underwent renovation and painting.
  • Both Spring Hall and Grand Hall, which were constructed between 2016 and 2017, added over 1,000 beds for first- and second-year students as well as a dining hall, more classrooms, and administrative office space.
  • For students involved in Greek Life, DeMattias Hall, located immediately east of Vandeventer Boulevard, offers themed housing.
  • Marguerite Hall, which has seven levels of double suite-style rooms primarily for first-year and sophomore students, is right next door to DeMattias.
  • Sophomores, juniors, and seniors can choose from on-campus residential alternatives such as Grand Forest, the Village, and the Marchetti Towers. East of Grand Boulevard and slightly west of Chaifetz Arena are Grand Forest and Marchetti Towers.

Internship opportunities (Part time job opportunities)

For a 14-week semester, or 112 to 140 hours, interns spend the equivalent of eight to ten hours per week on a role that they jointly select with the internship director. A brief weekly notebook, as well as a biweekly check-in with the internship director, may also be requested of interns. Every week or every other week, interns send the internship director their journal entries, which are subsequently compiled into a single document at the end of the semester.
