The Justus Liebig University Giessen is a large public research university located in Giessen, Hesse, Germany. As one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the German-speaking world, it has a rich history. The university is named after its most renowned faculty member, Justus von Liebig, who is considered the founder of modern agricultural chemistry and the inventor of artificial fertiliser.

The university offers a wide range of academic programs, covering areas such as arts and humanities, business, dentistry, economics, law, medicine, science, social sciences, and veterinary medicine. Its university hospital, which operates in two locations—Giessen and Marburg—has the distinction of being the only private university hospital in Germany. The Marburg site serves as the teaching hospital for the University of Marburg.

Campus

Although the university does not have a clearly defined campus, its buildings and facilities are grouped by subject areas and spread across different parts of Giessen. One such area is Philosophikum II, located on the outskirts of the city near the city forest. 

Several faculty buildings and lecture theatres can be found there, including the Audimax, a building with multiple lecture halls. Its atrium is frequently used for various events, such as concerts and "Uni-Party" disco nights.
