Ambrose University was established in 2007 through the merger of Alliance University College and Nazarene University College. The university is named after Saint Ambrose and offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs. These include education in pastoral ministry, select liberal arts, and science disciplines. Additionally, the Graduate School of Theology provides a unique Chinese-language program, Theological Studies in Chinese (TSC).
The university's history reflects a journey of educational development that began in the mid-20th century. Alliance University College (AUC) originated as the Canadian Bible Institute, which was founded by the Western Canadian District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1941.
Academics
Ambrose University aims to produce graduates who actively embody Christian principles in all aspects of life while serving the church through exceptional preparation for pastoral ministry. By 2023, the university offered 255 courses to 920 students, drawing individuals from over 30 Christian denominations and traditions.
The institution provides undergraduate and graduate programs focused on pastoral ministry, along with select liberal arts and science degrees at the undergraduate level. In 2021, the School of Business was established as a distinct academic unit. Ambrose is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada for its seminary programs, the Association for Biblical Higher Education for undergraduate ministry and theology degrees, and the Province of Alberta for conferring undergraduate degrees in specific disciplines.
Ambrose University Global Ranking
The University is still awaiting its official rankings from prominent organisations such as QS, Times Higher Education, and US News and World Report. Despite its growing reputation and contributions to academia, the university has not yet been featured in the rankings published by these influential bodies. But it has been ranked at #315 in National University by U.S. News in 2024.
Although the University continues to develop its academic programs and research initiatives, it remains unranked by these major international ranking institutions. The absence of a ranking from QS, Times Higher Education, and US News does not reflect the quality of education or research output but simply indicates that the university has not been formally assessed by these specific agencies.
