Campus
The Morgantown campus is divided into three distinct sub-campuses. The original and oldest portion, known as the Downtown Campus, is located in the Monongahela River valley near downtown Morgantown. This area features eight academic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places and showcases a mix of architectural styles, including Victorian Second Empire, Federal, Neoclassical, and Collegiate Gothic, with red brick being a dominant material. The Downtown Campus serves as the historical and architectural heart of the university.
Situated approximately a mile and a half to the north-northwest, the Evansdale Campus was established during the 1950s and 1960s to address the need for expansion as the Downtown Campus reached its spatial limits. Positioned on elevated land above the Monongahela River floodplain, it accommodates the growing student population. Nearby, across a ridge, lies the Health Sciences Campus, home to prominent facilities such as the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, the Erma Byrd Biomedical Research Facility, Ruby Memorial Hospital, and the WVU Children's Hospital. Other notable centres include the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, WVU Eye Institute, and WVU Healthcare Physicians Office Center.
