The University of Stavanger is a public research university situated in Stavanger, Norway. It was officially established in 2005 when Stavanger University College was elevated to university status. Since then, it has grown to become a significant academic institution in Norway.
The university is divided into six faculties and, by 2022, had an enrollment of 12,506 students and a workforce of 2,200 employees, including academic, administrative, and service staff. By 2024, its operating budget had reached nearly two billion NOK, equivalent to roughly $190 million. The institution’s history can be traced back to Rogaland Regional College, founded in 1969. In 1986, it merged with Rogaland Polytechnic to create the Rogaland College Center, which later evolved into the present-day university.
