The University of Padua is a public research university in Padua, Italy. It was founded in 1222. It is the second-oldest university in Italy and the world's fifth-oldest surviving university. A historically significant university, it was known for its Aristotelian logic and science and was one of the most prominent universities in early modern Europe. It had a role in the Italian Renaissance and educated several Renaissance scholars, including Nicholas Copernicus.
