The University of Paderborn is situated in Paderborn, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded in 1972 as a public and urban university which excels in information technology. The university offers 62 different degree programmes under five faculties. They are namely the faculty of Arts and Humanities, the faculty of Business Administration and Economics, the faculty of Science, the faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics.

In 2006, the university's computer science program ranked among the top 3 programs by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE). In the same year, the university was ranked among the leading institutions that have a success rate of gaining research funds in the areas of electrical engineering, computer science, and systems engineering by the German Research Foundation. in 2018, the university was ranked 837 on the Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report. In 2017, World University Rankings placed the university at 501.

The University of Paderborn is situated in the city of Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The city Paderborn derives its name from the river Pader and "born". Paderborn houses the "Paderborner" brewery, which is owned by the Warsteiner group. Paderborn is the headquarters of the former Nixdorf Computer AG, which is now known as Wincor Nixdorf. Paderborn also houses Many other information technology companies as well as industrial enterprises

Paderborn also has the largest computer museum in the world, the de: Heinz Nixdorf Museums Forum. The city hosted the RoboCup German Open 2001 to 2005. The city is acknowledged today for its exhibitions and displays in three of its museums: the Kaiserpfalz, The Diocesan Museum and also the Art Museum - Städtische Galerie.

Campus

Paderborn University has two campuses which are The main campus where Most lectures take place. Paderborn University has two student residence, which is just off the main campus. The main campus also houses the library. it opens for long hours and has lengthy lending periods. The campus in Fuerstenallee has located 5 km from the main campus and is connected to the main campus via the 'uni-line' bus. Computer science activities and Systems engineering departments are held at the Fürstenallee campus. The world's biggest computer museum, the Heinz Nixdorf Museum Forum is located Next to the Fürstenallee building. The museum exhibition includes historic computing technologies used during different eras and ages of human civilization starting from 3000 BC to world war. The Fürstenallee campus also houses different research centers.

Due to the location of the halls of residence, the distances between the lecture halls and facilities has been considerably reduced. There are modern student residences right on the campus and within walking distance of the city center. The Studierendenwerk Paderborn provides 1.322 places at the university campus in Paderborn. Also, The Studierendenwerk Paderborn offers a platform to advertise and search for current housing offers in Paderborn and the surrounding area. There are also private housing available outside the campus.
