In 1944, the sisters formed the Convent of the Annunciation, which became independent from the motherhouse in St. Joseph, Minnesota. In 1947, the convent was renamed Annunciation Priory.
Campus
The University of Mary is located on a high prairie bluff, just four miles (6.4 km) south of Bismarck, offering a picturesque view of the "Capital City." The rural campus features 24 buildings and is accessible via the Green 3 Route of Bis-Man Transit. Some of the original campus structures were designed by renowned architect Marcel Breuer. The Benedictine Center for Servant Leadership, one of the oldest buildings on campus, once served as a library and a priory for the Sisters.
Today, it houses various university offices, including those for the President, Academic Affairs, Undergraduate Admissions, UMary Online, Public Affairs, Financial Aid, the Registrar, Student Accounts, and Career and Testing Services. Additionally, the centre is home to the Liffrig School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, three residence halls, and the Hauer Family Theater. The Harold Schafer Leadership Center, another key building, hosts the university’s leadership program, with the upper floor dedicated to conferences and meetings, and the lower floor featuring IT training centres.
