Trinity College, a private liberal arts institution located in Hartford, Connecticut, was established in 1823 under the name Washington College. It is the second-oldest college in Connecticut and has been coeducational since 1969. Currently, the college enrols 2,235 students and offers 41 majors along with 28 interdisciplinary minors. Trinity is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Since its founding, Trinity has followed the European tradition of using academic regalia. In 1883, it was one of only four U.S. institutions, all linked to the Episcopal Church, that assigned specific gowns and hoods for its degrees. At that time, six degrees were awarded, each requiring a black silk or staff gown, with hoods lined in different colours: B.A. with white silk, M.A. with dove-coloured silk, B.D. with crimson silk, D.D. with scarlet silk, L.L.D. with pink silk, and Mus.D. with purple silk.

A: There is no single determining factor in whether an applicant is admitted or not. The admissions committee rates a candidate’s potential for success at Trinity based on the evaluation and consideration of ALL submitted application materials.

A: The application process for international students is slightly different. In addition to the submission of a completed application, international applicants should submit official secondary school transcripts and one academic recommendation letter. Those students whose first language is not English should submit the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test.
