Which program should I go for: NYU MS IS (offered by Stern) or SUNY Stony Brook MS CS [Both for Spring 2020]?
I want to be able to go for either a purely engineering position or for a slightly business oriented position as well such as product manager, simply put I want to keep my options open upon graduation. Also, I do intend to pursue an MBA later after working for 5 years.
NYU's MS IS program is 39 credits (13 subjects) of which 5 courses must be taken from Stern Business School and 5 from Courant. Two are free electives that can be taken from either school and the last is a compulsory semester long project course. If chosen, I will be taking 7 CS and 5 business courses. NYU also allows to do internships (maximum 2) during spring and fall semesters.
Stony Brook's MS CS program is for 31 credits (8 subjects) and it offers no flexibility in terms of taking courses from other departments. Neither does it allow interning during the Spring or Fall semesters. However, its tuition for 3 semesters is what I would pay for 2 semesters at NYU.
Given my future career goals, what do you all think I should do? Do employers have a bias for MS CS degree? That is, would I be disadvantaged if I hold a degree in IS?
Please advise.
Thank you!
