How should we start a Statement of purpose?

My name is XYZ, I have 3 years of experience in Abc field and currently persuing this.  
    
Is this a good way to start your sop or its a dull way ?

I would say first para especially the first sentence is the hook. The guy who is going to read your sop already knows who you are, what experience you got, what college you are from, so you don't need to include that, let alone starting with it. Instead try with something interesting, something which lures the reader to read further. The trick is to write something unique. What I did was starting with a brief story on how I got into the field( again it should be unique). What motivated me, what made me curious, etc. The story should depict your passion, intelligence( if you can), and your achievement (I smartly mentioned one and it did add value to my overall profile).
