A bank statement/certificate requires the letter to have a bank letterhead, date, funds in dollars, a sentence along the lines of 'funds can be taken out without any penalty for the use of the program', funds must be liquid, and a signature and stamp of the bank manager.

Some universities require an additional fee for an i20 request, while some don't. Totally depends on the university.

You need to show a bank letter with their seal stating the current balances in your savings and FD/RD/CD. Other than that, some unis also accept loan sanction letters!
