APPLICATION FORMS:-
Send your enquiries at least 15 to 18 months before the proposed date of admission. There are two ways to get application forms.
1) Requesting forms via email: You can request application forms from the universities’ websites. Most universities have a form on their website which can be completed online to request application material.
2) Downloading from the university website: Many universities have downloadable and ready-to-print versions of their application forms on the net. These can be used for applying just as regular forms.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:-
4 year Bachelor of Engineering with the average percentage of 70.
TOEFL scores: There is no fixed figure and each university may have different expectations. However, to aim top Canadian universities, a score of 90 to 100 with speaking section nearing 25 should be good. Even if your overall score is low and you have passed cut- off for each section with 22-23 scores, it should be well to do. The expected score varies whether you go for under graduation or post-graduation and the department so it is better to consult the school for precise information.
GRE scores: GRE scores, too, depend on the university and the program. Some require a minimum of 302 as a combined score of verbal and quantitative sections and 3.5 to 4 out of 6 in analytical writing.
OTHER APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Academic record:-
Most schools require you to have a reasonably good academic performance. Each university has its own minimum requirement for its programs, which are flexible depending on the candidate’s profile.
Universities in Canada have their own marking and evaluation systems, which are considerably different from the Indian system. It is advisable not to convert your marks in the Indian system of grading to the Canadian GPA system since the conversion may not be accurate.
LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION:-
Letter of reference play a major role in your admission. A recommendation letter is a signed statement from a person who knows you well professionally. It should list your positive and negative qualities, strengths and other such information.
The person must indicate his position, how long he/she has known the applicant and in what capacity. They are usually asked to rank applicants in their letters of recommendation, which helps admission officers to interpret the academic credentials of foreign students. Students should obtain letters of recommendation (often on the prescribed forms sent by the institutions) from teachers who know them as a person as well as a student.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:-
The personal essays, and/or statement of purpose, play a very important part in the process of evaluating your application for both admission as well as financial aid because it gives them most significant impression of you as an individual. This section is the key to distinguish your application from other suitable candidates and a chance to market yourself.
A personal statement should include your reasons for choosing a particular course, the suitability of your education and experience for the chosen course, your personal interests and career goals.
Go and study there. While returning to India, don’t forget to bring a Canadian bacon for me.
