Transportation in the city

There is a dedicated bus line to commute from campus to campus. The UDE shuttle bus operates on regular weekdays -including, Altendorfer Strabe 11, Audimax & R12, and Viehofer Platz.


Services offered by the university

There are several service facilities at the UDE. 

  • At the UDE, protecting students and employees is a priority. The University adopts many protective measures. The health and safety cell of the University takes care of the various health, safety, and well-being aspects of all attending the UBE.
  • UDE has fantastic library services that are beneficial for students and staff and are also an enriching experience for all who visit the library. It has an online library with a blog, a section on what is currently going on, news on various events happening and yet to happen, and many support services regarding books and periodicals. The library has many study places in rooms, Ebooks, courses and doors, easy access even beyond library hours, and more.
  • UDE also provides other facilities such as an institute for optional studies, an international office, a Center for information and media services, a science support center, a Center for teacher education, student residence service, university sports, etc.

Student life at University of Duisburg, Essen

Studying at UDE is an experience students will get at very few other universities. There is just so much to do all the time. It is like a fun home away from home. Even outside of the campus, the cities of Ruhr, Duisburg, and Essen have museums, art galleries, theaters, cinemas, shopping, restaurants, sightseeing, and a whole plethora of other activities to get engaged in. Also, the University of Duisburg Essen courses are exciting.

  • Campus Life – The campus life at UDE is never boring. There is a variety of choices for cinema, newspaper, radio, theater, music, sport, and so many other physical and cultural activities within the University. You can find cafeterias, restaurants, eateries, leisure areas, voluntary service and learning, associations and organizations, religious communities, and even areas and facilities to network. 
  • Student Life - The people of Essen are simply marvelous. And so are the people in the UDE. The city has the largest movie theater, a museum that has been awarded, a coal mine that is green on the outside and stylish on the inside, the oldest Madonna, one single-family home with 269 rooms, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can go swimming in the lake or sunbathe on the beach, immerse yourself in the works of art, experience over 1000 years of history, and even hike in green hills. Yes, it is not gray here; it is green. 
  • Sports Activities - Sports activities and games are an essential part of life at the UDE. There are many sporting facilities where students can not only participate in those sports but can also begin training in a new sport.

On campus accomodation at University of Duisburg, Essen

  • The student association runs most of the student residence halls where students can choose to reside. It may be wise to apply early if you rent a room in one of these residence halls. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will get a room first.
  • Students of the University of Duisburg, Essen generally take private accommodation that has either single rooms, a single flat, or a double flat, flats on share, and even private residences.
  • In most cases, the tenancy agreements begin in March or April, which is also the beginning of the summer session at the University. In most other cases, tenancy agreements begin in September or October, which is also the beginning of the autumn session at the University.
  • Whichever type of accommodation you choose, it would be prudent for you to first contact the student services and accommodation cell to help and guide you in getting you the appropriate accommodation.
