Cardiff University was founded in 1883, initially named University College of South Wales and MonmouthShire. In 1988, it amalgamated with the renowned University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. It is the third oldest University in Wales, with 26 academic schools divided into three colleges: the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences.

Transportation in the city
