Washington State University, an open research institution affiliated with the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, was established in 1890. The institution is reputed to be one of Western America's oldest. It is also Washington's second-largest University. The school had formerly gone by the name of the School of Science of the State of Washington. The development of the University and its faculty have received significant support from the Atomic Energy Commission Grants, and the University's medical school was one of Washington's three best and the only one. The Board of Regents is in charge of running the University with ten people.

  • Buses on the Pullman Transit system are free for faculty, employees, and students. To ride to local locations on and off campus, flash your Cougar Card.

  • To get to Spokane International Airport, use the shuttle service provided by Wheatland Express. Wheatland Express provides bus service to and from Seattle on weekends and during holidays (Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks).

Student life

Washington State University campus is spread out over 620 acres of land make up the campus. Although Spokane, the Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and other regional campuses are spread out around the state, the main campus of Washington State University is in Pullman. 

The renowned architect Paul Thiry designed and erected it in a Neo-Georgian architectural style. The campus's infrastructure is in good shape. All necessary facilities are offered to the pupils. Thompson Hall, Steven Hall, and Bryan Hall are the three halls on the campus. These structures are thought to be the campus's earliest ones. The College of Arts & Sciences and the Foreign Language Department are located at The Thompson Hall.

  • The school's sizable Greek community recruits about 20% of the student body. Around 300 student clubs and organizations exist in addition to fraternities and sororities. 
  • The NCAA Division I Pac-12 Conference is where the school's sports teams, notably the football team from Washington State University, participate.
