Transportation in the city

The University of Sussex is located in Falmer, East Sussex which is mostly within the city boundaries of Brighton (6 kilometers from the center of Brighton). The fastest way to reach the university from Brighton is through a taxi which lasts for a duration of 10 minutes. The most affordable way to reach the university from Brighton is through the train from Brighton Station and Lewes Station. Students can also travel to the university through the bus with a duration of 20 minutes between Brighton and the campus.

Student life

  • Students of the university have the freedom to use the meeting house or any of the common rooms situated in the school of History, Art History and Philosophy for recreational and academic purposes. 
  • The university has a total of 261 student clubs and societies at Sussex, all functioning under the Student Union
  • All students have access to the Sports Center & Falmer Sports Complex which has multiple sporting fields, rooms and equipment 
  • For the safety of everyone on campus, the university provides a Health Center with a Dentist clinic and a Pharmacy and even a Childcare Center.   
  • Students and Faculty have the option of choosing their daily meals from 16 cafes, shops, bars, restaurants and food vans.

Research is at the heart of Sussex where research centers, faculty and students are international leaders in their fields. The University of Sussex has over 40 research centers, 15 strategic research centers and smaller clusters. Since 2007, the university has invested 150 million in regenerating their campus, including specialist research spaces. 89% of research activity submitted by the university was categorized as either ‘world-leading’ (40.6%) or ‘internationally excellent’ (48.4%) in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF). Sussex research has produced three Nobel Prize winners, developed radical theories, and created important innovations. It has had an extensive impact on business, government, the third sector, health and culture. Moreover, Research with Impact webinar series launched in January 2021 to showcase some of the brilliant work that is undertaken at Sussex and explore issues which are of particular relevance to our research community, from PhDs to professors. The university runs a Junior Researcher scheme where undergraduate students have the opportunity to receive funding and spend 8 weeks of their summer vacation doing research with the university’s researchers and academics.
