Louis Riel, the Métis leader, negotiated the terms under which the province of Manitoba entered the Canadian Confederation in 1870. Université de Saint-Boniface campus is located at 200 Avenue de la Cathedrale, in the heart of the St. Boniface neighborhood. It is also near St. Boniface Hospital, St. Boniface Cathedral, and the Red River also, The Esplanade Riel connects the Université to downtown Winnipeg.

The main USB campus, constructed of Tyndall stone, houses two gymnasiums, the Sportex fitness center, a library, a chapel, the Étienne Gaboury student center, the campus radio station, a theatre, computer facilities, a performance hall, and an art gallery.
