The University of Greifswald had existed since 1436 but was formally founded in 1456. It was formerly known as the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald (abbreviated to UGEMA). It is a public research university that is situated in Greifswald, Germany. It is one of the oldest universities in Europe and is a proud alma mater with several notable alumni and staff.
