The University of Bamberg in Bamberg, Germany, is both one of the oldest and newest universities in Bavaria. The University of Bamberg was founded in 1647 under the name Academia Bambergensis and was enlarged in the following century to attain the status of a full university. The university today has four faculties: Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Economics, Social Studies and Business Administration, Faculty of Human Sciences and Education, Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science

In 2012, the Wirtschaftswoche ranking placed Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration at the 20th rank in business administration and 11th in economics. The university presence rank according to Webometrics 2024, its impact rank is 1229, openness rank is 1311 and its excellence rank is 1724. The university's computer science programs achieved top marks in the CHE university ranking in 2018 and are in the top group nationwide. The business informatics courses are ranked 1st in the CHE University Ranking 2017.

The University of Bamberg (Otto-Friedrich) is situated in Bamberg, Germany. Bamberg is small, yet a lively university city with a historic spirit and a buoyant cultural life. The picturesque city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. It is very easy to feel at home amidst Bamberg’s unique mixture of architectural styles from the Middle Ages to the present day. In the Old Town, the student presence has led to the appearance of bookshops, restaurants, bistros, and cafés.

Campus

The university has different infrastructures put in place for the enhancement of academics. The Library supplies the University with literature and information for research and teaching. The university is housed in the historic buildings in Bamberg’s Old Town. Some of these include the former Jesuit college (Theology), the old slaughterhouse (Earth Science), the former Hochzeitshaus (History), the former Bauhof (Communication Studies), and the former fire station (Oriental Studies). The departments of Social Sciences and Economics, Business Information Technology and Applied Computer Science which accommodate a large proportion of the students, are in Feldkirchenstrasse. The former ERBA cotton mill, which is on an island in the Regnitz, has been acquired to create student apartments in the red-brick building. The University of Bamberg Computing Centre provides service for all matters of information technology.
