Oxford Brookes University has its roots in the Oxford School of Art, which was founded in 1865 and occupied a single room in the Taylor Institution, a University library. Having served as  Oxford Polytechnic for several years, the institution gained university status in 1992 and earned its name from John Henry Brookes, its founding Principal.   • The institute provides a fun and interactive learning environment with 100 student societies open to all students. On-campus, students can also find a number of cafeterias, restaurants, and dining options.
  • Besides Oxford Brookes' four libraries, students can access six other libraries of Oxford Brookes Universities address are located at other universities and research institutions nearby.

There are four campuses of Oxford Brookes University: Harcourt Hill, Headington, Swindon, and Wheatley. 

  • Students can choose from 34 sports clubs offered by Oxford Brookes' Student Union.
  • Several undergraduate students are known for volunteering with Brookes Hub, a student-led organization. Students in the past have volunteered at a local care home and have conducted IT classes for the elderly as a result of the actions of the Brookes Hub.
  • At the Oxford Brookes University campus, the Brookes Sport Botley facility consists of a 55-station fitness suite, a heated swimming pool, squash courts, tennis courts, rugby fields, a physiotherapy facility, and more.

  • There are several residence halls at the University including: The Mews Studio, Dorset House, Westminster Hall, Parade Green, Slade Park, Lady Spencer Churchill Hall, Clive Booth Postgraduate Center, Crescent Hall, etc.
  • At Warneford Hall, there are rooms adapted for students with special needs or disabilities. 
  • The Mews provides single-occupancy studio flats to all students, Westminster Hall has 46 couples-only studio flats, and Dorset House offers only 50 studio flats to returning students.
