In 2021, the university hosted 39,096 students from 98 countries and supported 7,406 completions across 203 degree programs. Professor Kent Anderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global, University of Newcastle, said, “We are delighted to welcome back international students to our Australian campuses. International students form an important part of our university, enriching the learning experience for all students and bringing global perspectives into our region. As a top 200 university with a regional location and industry connections, we are a destination of choice for international students looking for quality education and employability outcomes.”
The Newcastle University’s student enrolment numbers from India are already up significantly this year. Information Technology, Engineering, Nursing, and other disciplines are among the Newcastle University courses which are perfectly placed to provide a highly regarded qualification and exceptional employment prospects for Indian students.
Explaining more about the university’s initiatives towards welcoming foreign students, Professor Anderson said, “As part of welcoming back international students, we have established the South Asia Excellence Scholarship for high performing students that come to study with us. To support students in their application to come to the university, we have a team of current students who have been through the process themselves, and are on hand to provide assistance and advice in navigating the post-COVID complexities of studying in another country.”
More than 1,000 students are expected to be studying at the Newcastle campus in Gosford once complete, with this figure growing to around 3,000 students located in Gosford over the next decade. The university will offer courses, including nursing, to support the development of a health, innovation and education campus and will work with business and industry in the area to identify skill needs and gaps, and to provide work integrated learning opportunities for students.
Around 93% of its postgraduate students are able to find employment within four months of finishing their studies. Some of the other campuses of the university include the ones located in the city of Newcastle, Ourimbah and Callaghan.
